Thats where the various non-profit registered samaj we've set up here should come in in the event of any catastrophe involving Nepalis.  I see all these samaj here in NYC: Gurung samaj, Mustang Samaj, Manang Samaj, Janjati Samaj, Himalayan Buddhist Assocn., Newa samaj, etc who have not established themselves within the educated masses (the ones with access to the internet and students...Sherpa Kyidug has done a phenomenal job in that field though).  Most of these samaj orgs have elected officials who in my mind would rather please the seniors who are already established here for the votes rather than make it easier for the newly arrived and especailly the students (Hats off to all ya'll working a full-time job and yet pursuing that degree).  I feel that these "registered" organizations should be the ones leading the charge especially if it is one of their own peeps (the very peeps whom they are obliged to represent the most).  Once that comes about, fraudulent activities (if any) would be lower too.

Most of the fellas here do such a fund raiser out of having personal ties to the injured/deceased and they do it with a clean heart.  Something may've come up where they weren't able to process the funds to the beneficiary on time, so before we start balming them, lets find out if the other 2 injured in OC received any sort of assistance.  BTW, I gotta ask Sunil Gurung's family to see if the funds collected here were ever received too (the Plymouth, MA incident).  Thanks Nostradamus...With all I've said, I hope the future looks better now!  LOLs
