Week 8 Review

Believe or not people, the Lions are for real this year. For some reason Detroit is a weird city. After returning to MLB with the third worst record in the AL in 2006, they made it to the World Series with some uncany and unbelievable victories over the best Yakees and the A's. Now, they are doing the same in Football (3-13 last year - worst in NFC). They are fine in NBA (Pistons with a ring - in the last decade) and NHL (Wings have 3 rings), but seeing them do something like this (winning games) in the NFL? At least I do not recall the Lions working out so much. Well, the pundits claimed that they would win a SuperBowl with Joey Harrington after he was picked first overall, but, even Joey is not in the team. But they do have an experienced Kitna. Yes, the Lions have beaten the Bears twice already this year. They are the fourth best team in the NFC and second in the North. It is not about Vikings and Bears, it is the Lions. Crazy city.

The Jaguars stunned the Bucs by holding on that 24-23 lead for more than 10 minutes in the last quarter. A real defensive game, that was. And that amazing first play of the overtime in GB v DEN game. Is there a doubt that Favre is playing the best season of his career. I thought that old man was too old to handle the fast Denver. But then, with Denver playing such a sloppy Rush plays against Green Bay, I do not see green lights in the Denver Locker room. Gosh, I was so happy when the game tied, after failing to score a TD on the First and goal at 2 yard line. Then I got my beer, ready to watch the overtime, thinking that the Denver would get the ball back. My friend calls me from the bar and tells me to hang on. There could be something left for Denver etc. And then, One play, and TD and game over. Sucks!! I only had a gulp.

The Pats anhilated the 'Skins. Believably, Tom Brady score two rushing TD to go with his 3 passing TD. Even their other quarterback Cassel had 3 plays for a rushing TD. This is an amazing team this year. And ofcourse, Manning's Colts also destroyed the NFC South's best Panthers. Both the Skins and Pathers came to the 8th week with 4-2 record, but their opponets were undefeated ones. But the most surprising part (as far as i am concerned), Vinny Testaverde is still playing. That Okeye boy from the Texans was just born when Vinny started his crazy career with Bucs and bounced to every other city that he was familiar with (rey).

Anyways, I incorrectly picked the three marquee game that i reported last week. Gil, Sahayog and Hatterika picked the Lions game correctly, and hankhora, basnyat, sahayog and hatterika got that Green Bay win correctly.

CamoFlaged has won the week again, with 11-2 (3rd straight - good going mate) along with Basnyat, Hankhora, neps and November. This is the first time we have had more than 2 winners for the week. We had one loosing picks this week, and only 3 picks that were lesst han 10 correct ones. overall, we had a great week. MostPickedByUs was 10-3.

Basnyat has replaced himalayandude in the second place, and is only 2 points behind the leader utousucks. but, himalayandude and utousucks are still the only ones left to have a lossing week.

Week 9 preview

Everyone's wait is finally over. Week 9 - here it comes. Mini-SuperBowl was held in week 6 with that NE v DAL. How about naming this another game of the undefeated super-SuperBowl, as they do not play each other in the Bowl game.

Game of the Year: New England Patriots (8-0) at Indianapollis Colts (7-0).

This is the first time in the NFL history that two undefeated teams with 7 or more wins have met (regular or post season). Undoubtly the winner of this game are the king of the 2007-08 season and most probable team to go all the way - perhaps undefeated - and give Bob Griese chills for his '72 Dolphins' record could be broken - finally.

The Pats are the best offense and 5th defense. They have scored more points than any team in the history of the NFL for the first 8 games. Brady has 30 pass TD, and Moss has 11 receiving TD - both on pace to easily outrun the previous records. The Pats have also won 3 of the previous 6 superbowls. But they were last beaten by the Colts in the AFC Finals, with that crazy comeback by Peyton Manning.

The colts are the 3rd best offense and 2nd best defense. They have won the last 12 straight games after that loss to the Texans in the 16th week last year. They have started 9-0 in the previous two seasons and with this 7-0, they have become the first team in the NFL to start three straight seasons with 7-0 or better. Manning-Harrison duo is the best QB-R combination in the history of the NFL.

Similar hype happened in the 2005-06 season when Manning visited Foxboro with 7-0 record to play the 6-1 Pats. The Pats lost 27-20, that marked Colts seconrd straight win over the Pats after loosing six. With that AFC Championship game, now they have 3-straight against Brady.

You just gonna have to see this possible mini AFC championship game to know the result. Brady is doing great with Randy Moss in the receiving end, while Manning hasn't connected as well as in the last season. But, watching the last game, at least I do not have a clue who at the moment is a better quarterback - for the team. But, If I had to pick, I am gonna have to go with Brady. Colts rely on Manning too much, which the Pats do not have to with its QB only. Although Colts looks better as they are playing at home, I am calling this game Patritos over Colts by 7 points.

Marquee Game #2 - Monday Night Football: Ravens (4-3) v Steelers (5-2). The clash of the divisional titans. Cleveland is playing Seattle, which they might win. That would give them 5-3. so, this is a must win situation for the Ravens. Both teams come off the bye-week, but they lost their games in week 7. The rested week should give them new direction and new game. The steelers are the best defense in the league and Ravens are second. This is going to be a very low scoring game. Steelers by 3.

Sunday Matinee game: I am going to see the Den v Det game. But, the better game would probably be the Panthers v Titans (Just cause this is the one of only two games played by two winning teams in the matinee - other one is GB v KC).

Well, guys, your wait is over. We are going to see the two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL history play with undefeated records - only one team will be left with undefeated record, after this week. Enjoy the Games.
