Deuba meets PM Koirala Kantipur Report KATHMANDU, Aug 29 - Nepali Congress President Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Nepali Congress-Democratic President Sher Bahadur Deuba holding a decisive meeting to finalize the unification of the two factions Wednesday. Deuba called on PM Koirala on the latter's official residence in Baluwater this morning to finalize the unification process. The duo are reportedly holding talks today ahead of tomorrow’s joint-meeting of NC-D’s central committee and parliamentary party, which is expected to finalize the Congress merger. The formal announcement of Nepali Congress and Nepali Congress-Democratic unification is likely to take a few more days despite the completion of all necessary homework for the merger, sources said. NC President, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala had presented the unification package Monday evening on which NC-D President, former PM Sher Bahadur Deuba had asked for two days to think over it, sources added. The duo had, nonetheless, reached an agreement to unify the party ahead of the CA elections during a meeting held at the PM’s official residence at Baluwatar Sunday evening. After a vertical split lasting almost five years, the Nepali Congress and breakaway Nepali Congress (Democratic) Monday finally agreed to unify under tremendous pressure from party rank and file for unification well before the upcoming the CA polls scheduled for November 22. Stating that the parties should either finalize the unification or start the election campaign on their own, the district leaders of both factions had begun to put pressure on the leadership. It has been agreed that PM Koirala would remain the president of the party while Krishna Prasad Bhattarai would hold the senior most position after Koirala followed by Deuba. In the unified party, Vice-President, Sushil Koirala would hold the position of acting president, the sources added. The NC-D has proposed that it should get the position of the vice-president and the general secretary. A meeting of central committee of the NC will take place at 8 am Thursday to discuss the unification drive and to conduct homework for the elections.
