I am surprised that you are surprised. There is civil war going on, security situation is bleak, people are being taxed by non authorities and robbed rite in their houses , there is enormous lack of jobs, almos all aspect of a civilized living is threatened.

The point - Your well wishers will never tell you to live in those circumstances vs the opportunities you have US. So, I think you are a good person and people around wish you well.
