I think Hinduism is the only religion that regards sex as a divine act. So, its cool to have a wife;therefore, many gods and rishis are believed to have wives. But in contrary, if we look at today's society, sex isn't regarded pious. People even try to discard Tantra, because of Tantra's explanation of sex as a medium to tanscend bodily consciousness and attain cosmic consciousness. So the core principles of our religion, and our today's social views on sex seem to divert. But still, classical hinduism finds divinity in sex. Unlike christianity, in which they can't accept the very idea that jesus had a child. They think sex is a sin.
