I would generally avoid Air India and flying via India unless I absolutely must. Air India's customer service is close to nil. If you have to make any changes, they will try not to allow it. And even if they do, they will charge a hefty sum. This is in sharp contrast to Cathay Pacific or Thai Airways who are always willing to accomodate their customers. I would say, pay few hundred dollars more and fly with a dependable airline, like aforementioned.
