I am no fan of either team, and from a neutral point of view I think Stern cheated all the fans of the NBA. Rules are rules but it's not a clear cut rule, there is a certain degree of fuzziness involved in it. If the rule says player leaves the "Vicinity" of bench during altercation then clearly how do u define vicinity, 1 feet, 10 feet, 20 feet?? how do u define altercation, playing jawing at each other, punches thrown?? All this is too to cloudy which should have allowed Jackson to get a little sense into their heads and say"Hey, rules are rules but here how do we know Amare was going to punch or try to punch someone, how do we know he wasnt going to check in Nash?, Why did Bowen pull back Duncan?? Let's not ruin the series for some stupid foul with seconds remaining in already decided game. But of course Stern decided to show off his tough guy image so be it. For me all this does it send wrong message to other teams, if you are not tough and dirty like Spurs u have no chance. For all I care marcus banks or someone can chop Duncan's head off today's game(likely sth will happen if Phoenix is losing bigtime) and we will see how Stern reacts to that, we will see if Spurs players can contain themselves from not coming onthe court and checking on their MVP.
