The 'asking out' ritual is a little different in the nepalese perspective because when someone says 'no' it does not end there. The person saying no will tell his/her friends .. ' ohh guess what this person (insert name, address, fathers, mothers name, friends name etc history everything known), asked me out and I said no.' There is some pride in even being able to say it. Next time you're at a party, everyones in that person's circle what a loser you are. You were rejected by thier friend/acquaintance. It is likely that the news has spread all over the place and even your friends know about the rejection. Chances are even your family back in Nepal know about it. So my friend, asking for a date is not as easy in the Nepali context. When we ask for a date we have to ask ourselves whether there are any common friends between you and the person of interest. Because in case there's a rejection, be ready to feel the full force of the Nepali society's snickers and sneers. HEHE you know wha i'mmm sayinnn??
