NEW DELHI, March 6 - Dr Sunduk Ruit, who has gained name in the medical field for pioneering development of cataract surgery, was named “Asian of the year-2007” in a programme in New Delhi on Monday. He was honored by the Readers’ digest magazine for helping poor and helpless people with his invention. Dr Ruit, who is also an eye specialist in Nepal’s Tilganga Eye Centre, was awarded a certificate and 5000 US dollars by the Indian Health Minister Dr Ambu Mani Ramdas Earlier, Dr Ruit had also received the Magsaysay Award for International Understanding and Peace in 2006
