Here is an immortal melody from the poetry painted on silver screen -- Pakeezah Seeing Raaj Kumar and Meena Kumari sail off into the picturesque sunset makes me long to sail off into my dreams with my beloved as well ....if only we could also say: Aao kho jae sitaron mein kahin Chhod de aaj duniya yeh zameen! Pakeezah has exquisite dialogues ...poetic dialogues in fact .... there are a couple of them that I especially love and just felt like posting them here: 1. meena kumari, unable to hide that she's a tawaif, when raaj kumar tells her that she's his destiny: "bas keejiye ....itne pyar se meri jaan mat lijiye ...." 2. grand father warning raaj kumar not to repeat his uncle's mistake of marrying a tawaif: jo log dhood se jal jate hai woh chhaaz bhi phook phook ke peete hai raaj kumar retorts: afsos ke log doodh se bhi jal jate hai 3. raaj kumar, flabergasted at finding his mystery lady from the train, stares in astonishment while meena kumari speaks to herself, lying in the tent, pretending to be asleep: aap hairan hairan mujhe yunhi dekhte rehenge main tarasti tarasti aapko bina dekhe aap hi ke saamne aap hi ke bistar par khatam ho jaungee zara moo pher leejiye, kuchh to moholat deejiye main ek saas leloon, aap ki ek jhalak dekh loon ...... Just felt like sharing them! :-)
