I think they have intense hatred towards Pahadis and would rather be a part of India rather than part of Nepal. This theory seems to be streanthen by friends I have in Terai whose family seem to prefer marraige to an indian than to a Nepali. There seems to be even more hate for the people in KTM. Maybe due to all the abuse they seem to get in the valley. Being called 'Dhoti' etc. To be honest I have heard a lot of abuse being hurled at the madhesi's in my childhood. So their hate seems natural. Hate to the point that they want to starve the people in the valley. So if there is this inherent hate then what is the solution? let the tarai go on its own. Or let it go with India. Afterall that is how they feel. In today's world, poor countries like Nepal cannot afford seperatist revolution. But I will add being a part of India is not going to be easy for Terai. India has a strange habit of making the poor poorer and rich the richer. And North is definitely not the later side. All I seek from Terai is 10 safe passage to India. Not just allowance but land that we can have our army on. That is all. 10 passage vs all the land that the supposed pahadis won in historic times. But obviously Tarai being a democratic land should vote on region by region basis whether they want to be in Nepal or India. May be we can even do a swap with India. My recent visit to some parts in north India, I was suprised of strong feeling towards Gorkha Land. We will welcome people who wants to be Nepali with ope arms. And to those who dont CIAO! Let us live in peace.
