As a Nepali who believes in a liberal democratic framwork with rights spelled out, I DEFEND Paramendra's right to express his views -- on his blog, via emails and whatever -- no matter how ridiculous or brilliant his views appear to others. Likewise, as a recipient of Paramendra's emails, the way I deal with his emails is to do a MIXTURE of: a) ignoring his emails b) reading them selectively, if the subject is provocative and if I have time and interest. c) reporting him as a spammer to my email providers. My life as a pahadiya bahun goes on just fine, without worrying about the supposed power of Paramendra's emails. My attitide is: Just as those swimsuits that Miss Nepals wear do NOT lead all other Nepali women to be semi-naked all over the place, "fiery" words from Paramendra also do NOT lead the entire Nepal to unravel into separate countries in a matter of days or weeks. My faith in Nepal is strong enough to withstand these temporarily difficult times. This is NOT the time to shoot the messenger, but to quietly understand what the messages say so that tomorrow's Nepal can be INCLUSIVE and DIVERSE and SELF-CONFIDENT beyond how we were taught through those Mahendra Malas.
