Too little, too late.... Wow! 84 out of the 87 rhinos in Bardiya National Park were killed. At this pace, we would be able to see rhinos in picture book only. जता हेर्यो, उतै भताभुङ्ग From the following news MPs have attempted to do something, but cosmetic only... ****************** MPs concerned over killings of rhinos Kantipur Report KATHMANDU, Jan 7 - Members of Parliament, speaking during the special time at the meeting of the House of Representatives Sunday expressed concern over the increasing incidents of rhino killings in the national parks. Stating that poachers had killed 12 rhinos in Chitwan National Park and 84 out of the 87 rhinos in Bardiya National Park, Khemraj Bhatta Mayalu of Nepali Congress (Democratic) objected to the release of smugglers who are in jail for killing rhinos. Narayan Man Bijukchhe of Majdoor Kisan Party said the proportional rights of all in the national assets should be established and the rhinos could be protected if it was declared as the national animal. Pradip Nepal of the CPN-UML expressed strong objections as the arrested rhino poachers and the sandalwood smugglers were being released. He alleged that as the involvement of the Home Ministry was seen in their release, the matter should be investigated. He added that members of the Council of Ministers bringing proposal in the Cabinet meeting for releasing the smugglers should be subjected to action and check posts should be set up in the park areas. He also stressed that the rhino should be enlisted as the national animal. CPN-UML's Astalaxmi Shakya said the Rayamajhi Commissions' report had been shelved and the Rhino poachers were being protected rather than punished. Sabitri Bogati Pathak of Nepali Congress urged the government to reinstate the security posts inside the buffer zone of the Chitawan National Park and remove the hotels inside the park.
