The present attempt and break through to end a decade long guerilla war in Nepal should be eulogized, both nationally and internationally. The best way to praise and recognize such effort in international level is by nominating its leader for Nobel Peace Prize. Girija Parsad Koirala having played the significant role in this ongoing peace process deserves to be nominated for Nobel Peace Prize. The fact that Girija Parsad Koirala was chosen unanimously by both SPA and Maoist as their governmental leader is alone cognizable to judge his significance on the ‘people’s movement.’ I firmly believe that Girija Parsad Koirala, if nominated, would be the strong candidate for Nobel Peace Prize. If you look at the history of Nobel Peace Prize there have been controversial people who were able to bag the Nobel Peace Prize. Mikhail Gorbachev, once the leader of Soviet Union, was awarded Nobel Peace Prize on 1990 for his attempts at reforms that helped to end the cold war. However, one should not forget that Mikhail Gorbachev, in Russia, has a very low reputation. Many blame this 1990’s Nobel Peace Prize winner for the collapse of the country. He is also blamed for the economic misery that followed the collapse of Soviet Union. Also, Arafat, Peres and Rabin were awarded the Prize even though there still is no permanent peace between Israel and Palestine; Hume and Trimble were also awarded this Prize on 1998 for their effort to find the peaceful solution to the conflict in Northern Ireland. I would not be surprised if Girija Parsad Koirala bags the Nobel Peace Prize. -Megalomaniac.
