The government would be able to identify companies that have been blacklisted through the e-procurement or electronic procurement system, Federal Secretary Datuk Isa Kassim said Tuesday. He said that with the system, companies would not be able to use any illegal method to make procurements as all personal details would be recorded online. "All information recorded electronically cannot be erased or altered as this system incorporates a high level electronic security system," he told reporters after launching the E-Procurement Supplier Registration System here Tuesday. He said the e-procurement system would open up a wider market and more opportunities for suppliers of goods and services to increase their earnings while costs would be reduced. Through the system suppliers would be able to also conduct procurement transactions with the government in a more transparent, faster and effective way. Isa said that the system which replaced the Finance Ministry Registration System (SPKK) 2000, would enable suppliers to promote their products, receive, manage and process purchase orders as well as receive payments from government agencies through the internet. "Suppliers who participate in the system would be able to increase their efficiency and enjoy security for any procurement transactions between them and government agencies," he said. "All applications for new registration, renewals, re-registration, expansion of scope and bumiputera status for suppliers of services and goods to the Sabah and Sarawak Treasury can be done through this system," he said. Isa said the registration could be done through the eProcurement system via online through its web site at www.eperolehan.com.my. He said that the services launched by the federal agencies in Sarawak would include registration for suppliers, followed by procurement through Direct Purchase and Contract Centre which would be launched this June. "Two types of procurement systems to be launched by end of this year are the procurement through tender and price quotation," he said. He said the e-procurement system, an important feature under the e-Government, had been successfully implemented in Peninsular Malaysia in stages since October 2000. "Todate there are more than 51,000 suppliers registered with the Finance Ministry through the e-procurement while about 4,000 suppliers from Sarawak are expected to register with the system," Isa said. He said that suppliers in Sibu and Miri keen on the system could contact the treasury at: 082 421 333. The ePerolehan system is a joint effort undertaken by the Finance Ministry with local company, Commerce Dot Com Sdn Bhd (CDC) on a Build, Operate, Transfer (BOT) basis.
