if you got sony, then when you connect USB cable to your computer, your main display screen goes dark, with options you can see when you press MENU. on MENU, select PICTBRIDGE, then OK. go back to your computer, click MY COMPUTER. if you see a camera model or external drive, you can find the images in there. copy and paste it in your drive.
