There are several issues to be addressed before we can have developed Nepal. A couple of points to be noted: Sustainable peace: no country can prosper if uncertainty prevails in the country. Yes, we are poor but we cannot do anything with the rise in petro prices because we don't determine their prices. Perpetual subsidization of prices isn't possible. Though there isn't a detailed analysis done so far regarding the role of education on growth of economy, it is assumed vital. Private education should be promoted and in areas where private boardings dont open up, public education should substitute. Finances: We do get a lot of aid every year but it fails to deliver up to our expectations. We lag behind because we don't know how to put the money we have in a good use. Remittances have a great role to play in our economy if we can tap them well. Most of it has been spent in consumption goods (80% of remittances goes to it) and most goods are imported. We are already into luxury when we could have invested and created employment and at the same time added to our retirement funds. So, there should be a good environment so that people can invest. We do not have edge over technical stuff, so we can focus on garments among others. Globalization does help but we need to be careful. We should allow businesses to operate in a free environment. This will boost employment-consumption demand-demand for labor-again employment.
