Cell phones in Nepal

Last time when I was in Nepal , I took my cell phone with me. At that time I was not aware of any of the cell lingos-locking, quad band, TMDA etc. I was naive enough to think that since it was a cell phone, it would work. Well, it did not. I was surpeised to see that most of my friends and relatives carried cell phones which looked way nicer than mine. I got mine free when I signed for 2 yr contract (it was around 250$ at that time). But in Nepal, every body paid in HARD CASH. I could not believe folks spent as much as three months' salary to buy a phone set. No wonder, they had sexy-thin sleek flip phones. To make it worse, cell phone was such a topic of conversation. I felt like dumb when I was exposed to their enormous knowledge of cell phone models and functions. Next time I go to Nepal, I aint gonna repeat the mistake. I aint showing my phone to nobody.
