A little over a month I posted this thread: http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/OpenThread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=32015 Back then, I thought this was some isolated incidents that would go away on its own. Unfortunately, instead of going away, it's becoming more of a common theme in the sajha kurakani. An individual can be bad. An individual can do condemnable acts. But we cannot condemn the whole group because of the acts of one or few people of the same group. As we look at history of our country, groups of people have been discriminated against. Kamis, sarkis and many other such castes have been segregated to never be able to live up to their potentials. In this day and age everyone needs to have the opportunity to shine at what he/she is good at. I think it is conceited and wrong for anyone to think that a certain caste should not be able to do certain things. Most of us who visit this site are educated, yet, we take advantage of the anonimity provided by the internet to thrash other groups. Other groups which consist of individuals. Individuals who do not fit the stereotypes. As we look back at the history of Nepal. We have always been divided into separate castes. It has always been in the rulers best interest to divide and rule. Even the British used the 'divide and rule' policy to rule over India. We have just recently earned 'democracy' (which is still in it's conception stage), and it's a perfect time for us to do away with the caste system that divides us. We, are individuals firstly, and then we are Nepalis. It's a perfect time to move on to the 21st century and do away with a tradition that tries to determine your fate according to your birth. We should judge a person by his/her individual achievements rather than branding someone according to his/her birth family. I'm a little tired after coming back from the ANA today so please accept my apologies if I have not been very coherent. The main thing I want to say is that caste discrimination is not going to go away on it's own. We cannot simply ignore it and say that it's part of life. We have to do something about it, and we can all start by NOT practicing this in sajha. Please join me in declaring sajha a site where we do not discriminate on the basis of castes. This will be enforced. As responsible members, I hope you will help by notifying admin@sajha.com if and when these kinds of topics rear their ugly heads. More on the ANA and more photos coming soon...
