Instead of saying "South Americans don't play well in European soil", it will be more suitable to say "South Americans don't have good track record of winning in European soil". Some of the few examples of South American's good performance in Europe are: Argentina (1990 FINAL in Italy), Brazil (1998 FINAL in France). Without playing well, offcourse they wouldn't reach to final.
