thanks for the details KNT... It's sad to know that some people do commit sati as of today too... But nowhere does it say that it was *imposed* on those women like you have been insisting.. If they did it thinking it was a part of the religion, then it's the fault of their ignorance and if they did that because they didn't wanna live without their husbands, it was because of their blindfolded love .. Either way, it's not the religion to be blamed for... I know "my potshot at christianity" didn't bother you, because it was not meant for that.. I just put that as an example to let you know that such bad traditions were deep rooted in many socities and not just Hinduism....
