Having said that, I would say you need to look at the specific area and the lab where you want to work. Not all great scientists and researchers go to MIT and Stanford, it's the work that you do with your advisor in the lab that speaks the volume of your skill. So, my suggestion to you is to go check the lab and the people you want to work with. If there is a match, you should go for it. All the best.
