Interesting coincident. Today, we received this message in Nepal Democracy Forum. 12 seats for diaspora in Nepal's parliament: ----- Original Message ----- From: [withheld] To: nepaldemocracy@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, April 25, 2006 5:59 PM Subject: [ND] What's in it for the diaspora.....time to think out of the box We knew what we had to do against oppressors in Nepal.., Petition, Protest and Participate? Diaspora infact were the vanguard from 2007 to 1990 to present... But, as soon as the national desired outcome was achieved we were quietly marginalized and became simply welcoming agents to corrupt visiting dignitaries who for the most part wasted our time (most recent example being Deupa). In the age of globalization diaspora can be a single defining factor, if given proper opportunity and channel to invest and share their experiences abroad and lift it out of poverty. Here I am even reminded of reverse immigration of Indian and Chinese populations from the US. Aren't all revolution fought to determine who is going to be representing their voice? Nepalese in Nepal exactly did that? But what about me and us. Who will represent our voice in Nepal. It took 10 years and big time ass kissing just to have a passport duration extend from 5 to 10 years or other cursory changes. My Proposal: It is of utmost importance that when we draft a new constituion we give voice to dispora as well. How about adding 5 seats in parliment to dispora from South Asia which house over 3 million diaspora. Of course they have to be vigorously contested. 3 seats from North America - so that it gives chance for many qualifed people from here to represent our interest namely republic state, human rights agenda and perenial access of cabinet level person in Washington DC. 2 seats to Europe and 1 for Asia Pacific and 1 for Gulf to help the labor. This is going to cost the Nepalese society pretty much nothing but for the long term political stability of Nepal this would be a visionary step, one that can be replicated by other nations as well. These individuals would always champion human rights and fight against corruption as they would be independent of Nepalese society. We can always count on this group as well. Besides granting suffrage to the diaspora in itself is rewarding for the nation and what better way to say thank you than to allow your own representative. These are mere proposals. Devil lies in the details. But I'm sure we can reach consensus in this issue. I request our intellects and politician to thoroughly debate the pros and cons of this matter and raise it to the next level or higher up to seriously consider making this a reality So today I prospose that it is time for diaspora to have 2nd round of revolution to have our voices heard and not become mere welcomes or worthless politicians if you are interested in having further conversation or jointly writing a paper with me then please feel free to contact me at ...... Thanks ......
