THE HIMALAYANS How very rude of me to forget a name whose evolutionary progression I'd followed with unbounded obsession since my teenage years and later as an adult during my time in both Far East and England. Founded in the mid seventies in Hong Kong by a resolute bunch of talented young men from 7th Gurkhas (which incidentally became my own regiment years later), The Himalayans must probably be the very first Nepali rock/pop band. I may be wrong. How very bloody rude of me eh!. Thanks Highfly, newlynew and raascal. Listnening to their all time classics such as Musu Musu Haansi Deuna Lai Lai (I don't like the remix - very bland, sorry; don't like the Hindi one either!), Meraa Gunaaso Ka Yi Rodan Haru (wow), Malaai Dherai Dherai Maya Chahinchha ki sodha na etc bring back so many fond memories. Norden Bhutia, the lead vocalist cum guitarist, left British Army in the 80s to pursue a civilian career and life with his English wife. He lives in Aldershot - it's been ages since I last met Norden Dai. Nabin Rai, another lead vocalist/lyricist. I hear, he now works for some French company in Hong Kong. Cracking man. Franklin Mukhia - the bass guitarist. Settled down in his home town, Keorsang after retiring from the army. The late Bijaya Thapa - he died last year, sadly. An indispensable member of the group. Sonam Sherpa - the drummer. He's also settled down in England. My top Himalayan numbers must be: Musu Musu Hansi Deun Lai Lai Meraa Gunaaso Ka Yi Rodan Haru Tada Tada Jaanu Chha Aaja Birsi Deu Timi Malaai Ma Ta Biraano Bani Saken Gaanjalu le Aankhai Chhopne Ke Raamri Meri Mayalu Etc etc.. Sorry I got carried away. Happy listening. Carpe Diem
