Its not a driver problem. Its a problem of not having an available IRQs for the modem. The most common reason for this is the sound card or some other hardware already using the IRQ being allocated for the modem by the OS. First try to download the latest version of the driver form the vendors website for the correct operating system. Dont use the setup that came with the drivers. copy them to a folder, restart the computer and when a new hardware is recognized, point the driver installation utility to the folder, i.e. let windows install the driver rather than using the setup.exe. If you are not using the network card, leave it diabled, if that doesnt work, disable the sound card and restart again. once modem is installed, re-enable sound card and restart the computer. right click on my computer> properties>hardware>device manager. right click on modem and go to properties, click on resources tab and see which device your IRQ is confilcting with to find out which hardware to disable. Taking a wild guess here, the sound card as well as the modem are trying to use IRQ 5.
