If you are getting free phone with your new service plan, then purchase the unlock service from somewhere. It should cost about $20. Just buy tri-band cell phone. Go to E-bay and purchase unlocking service. Buy a Nepali SIM card and plug it in. Another great idea is - Buy a cell phone in Nepal, use Nepali SIM card while you are there. Then bring the phone to USA and plug in your old US SIM card. I think the cell phone in Nepal are not locked anyway. One of my friend did this and has good quality cell phone.
