I think this because most people won't want to believe it. They are against gay marriage and aren't going to be swayed by trying to make it a gender issue rather than an orientation issue.
It's all a matter of how you spin it.
-I am a female. I can marry a male.
-I am a male. I cannot marry a male.
Ah ha! Gender discrimination! But...
-I am a female. I cannot marry someone of my gender.
-I am a male. I cannot marry someone of my gender.
Sounds fair to me!
When it can be spun so easily like that, the anti-gay marriage crowd is going to stick to their guns of keeping this a sexual orientation (or "preference" in their words) issue.
I really don't see how it's my decision to make on wether same-sex couples should get married or not. It's their choice, not mine. Why should we as heterosexuals be that arrogant and tell gays that they can't get married?
