Hmm...age 19-23 ??? You may have a condition commonly known as "Pericoronitis". Inflammation and infections around the gum of a growing teeth. It can be recurrent. The common Rx of 3rd molars is extraction. The difficulty of extraction depends upon the degree of impaction: the angulation of teeth and whether it is in the bone or not etc. An xray can tell that. Many of the extractions need some degree of surgical procedure and usage of narcotic analgesics to controll the post operative pain, so they have to make a case of you. Nowadays every thing is computerized and even to take out an instrument from a dispendsary; you have to be a case or patient in the registry. Regarding cost: it may be any thing and depends upon the school and who does it. If a student does means the cheapest, residents mean higher fees and faculty the highest. The impactions are usually done by residents and if general sedation (sleep) is needed (meaning more manipulation) the cost will esccalate again depending upon who does it. YOu may want to contact oral surgery before getting any procedure done because it may turn out to be very expensive.
