Respect goes a long way. If you respect each others space, feeling, property, etc., everything else falls into place. No matter what culture you are raised in. As for everything else, wants/desire differ with every individuals. Know what you want, and know what your partner wants, and if your wants are compatabile - BOOM - match made in heaven ;).
