WHy should one give so much importance to Dalai Lama, i do not understand. I mean most of the Buddhist (except Tibetians) do not consider him the form of GOd and for i feel he is just a human. In fact if we read the history, he is responsible for Tibet's downfall. He was just like our King G who lived on the wealth of other people and who still does and talks as per his wishes. I am sure he is talking that Buddha is born in India because he lives in India and that suits him fine. He would not want to think how much it impacts the other people by his statement. As long as he lives in India and enjoys the benefits of the country he will continue praising the country because otherwise his existance is in danger.
