Dear Friends, though, XXX didn't put his own arguments on this column, but s/he has refered the article by Niresh Tamang, on Dalitstan Journal, vol. 1, issue 2 (1999). However, he tries to provoke with his posting about the serious and deep rooted complexion of the Nepalese societies. Actually, it is not that necessary to praise one or another caste, race or ethnic group, but important is to understand the dynamic of the societies, as I stated earlier. The discourse on Bhaunbad, doesn't justify with few examples from HK or two friends of yours with different ethnicity, but it should be discussed in the light of the existing scenerio in the rural areas of Nepal, where, the oppressors and oppressed are still existing and Bahunbad to many extend is a problem. For us who could write in English in this forum is not a problem at all. But still, if we keep any racist view, supporting Bahun or support Newar or another one, that is different. The problem in rural communities in Nepal is still a leading obstruction for the socio-political development. In fact, in the article of Niresh, he lacks too many sides of Nepalese lifes and ignore the critical neutral view on the complex struche of Nepalese societies. It would also have been better to stress what could be better, if so. Lets have more input on this, may be we come with may good ideas and this colum, if we contribute unbiasedly, could be really benefitting. I have once heard about the Dor Bahadur Bista's book on Fatalism and Development from a friend of mine, which is supposed to highlight similar issues on Bahunbad. According to him, Bista was the one who brorught the issues of prevailing Bahunbad to the outside world. Otherwise, the Bahunbad and fatalism issues in Nepal, was remain like a "Kunai tol ko Gu"--shit on the street, where people on the tol are so accomodate, the shit doesn't smell like sheet or they don't observe shit as shit. Therefore, we sometimes don't see how much Bahunbad might have retrogatede the socio-political development in Nepal. Just an idea....
