[Some tips to avoid Nepal 's dependence on India ] India is not a problem, as many would believe. In effect India is a permanent headache to Nepal whose medicines are not available any where in the world. At best since it is a Nepali headache, so it would be wise to devise mechanisms that do away with this disease that has many a times in the past had inflicted mental torture on this Kingdom. India is with Nepali political parties. It is with Girija, Madhav, and Deuba. India is with Anandai Devi's Sadbhavana. It is equally close with the monarch but it pretends that she is not because the monarch has caused what she calls a "set-back" to democratic system in Nepal . Mind it, in 1960 too; India had termed the late King Mahendra's move as a setback. Let's not forget that the rebels too are supposedly close to the Indians. But then she pretends not to be familiar with this paraphernalia. India sees so many set backs as and when some thing surprising happens in this country. The fact is that India is number one anti-democratic country but poses herself as the largest democracy in the world, which she is not by any means. All that she practices is Bihari democracy in effect whose impact is there for all to see in Nepal . Thanks S.D.Muni who the other day said in Delhi that his country has never championed the cause of democracy in Nepal and that India should have concurrently voiced concerns on the installation (read imposition) of India brand democracy in Bhutan and elsewhere. Muni is a self-proclaimed Nepal expert based in New Delhi whose Nepali versions are aplenty in Kathmandu . This is India 's tacit investment in Nepal 's academic sector. Sambhu Shrestha, the editor of a powerful weekly called Dristi rightly said last week that Nepal's problems, if any, were solely India and India alone. His conclusion is more than correct. India is a huge crocodile with tones of tears in its eyes. What crocodile tears mean and when such terms are being used in our society is not a matter of secret. The day India shed tears for Nepali events, exactly the same evening in one of its provinces one of its leaders bagged confidence motion in his favor. However, Governor rule was imposed to get rid of that very particular leader and some one other than the victor was made in charge of that province. And L.K.Advani the same evening was with all tears concluding that the entire event was a "set back" to Indian democracy. Set back is a term that the Indians like most perhaps. Without stretching the matter further, here are some tips to avoid or lessen Nepal 's over dependence on India . The points are as follows: 1-Nepal should begin talking for the abrogation of all the unequal treaties signed with India in the past including that of the most controversial one of 1950. 2-Nepal should keep on hold indefinitely the signing of the extradition treaty that is India tilted treaty. 3-Nepal should buy some time in the finalization of the India proposed construction of Sapta Koshi High dam as suggested by Nepali population residing in that very particular area. The Biratnagar office of that very Dam should be closed for a while. 4- Nepal should make diplomatic efforts in sending the unwanted Indian military guests from KALAPANI area at the earliest. 5-Nepal should fervently request the Chinese side to go in for heavy and massive investments in this country. 6-Nepal should appeal China to construct several link-roads that connected Nepali territories with those of Tibet Autonomous Region so that economic linkages could be firmly established. 7-Nepal can ask for Pakistani investments in the sectors such as textiles, leather factories and tourism. 8-Nepal should initiate registration of the Indian incoming tourists and also of those who are busy in doing economic activities through the use of the "basket". 9-Nepal should on its own initiate construction of railroads, and trolley buses in Nepali highways by using our own surplus hydropower. 10-Nepal can convince Bangladesh for the establishment of factories related to pharmaceuticals and chemical fertilizers under the scheme of joint venture. Tourism sector could also be one wherein B'desh could be interested. 11- Quality education should be provided to Nepali students who could think twice before leaving for India to obtain higher education. Deserving students could be awarded scholarships. This will save money from going into the pockets of India institutions. 12-Nepal should seduce her own farmers to replace those who have come here from across the border with the baskets. 13- Ascertain the Nepali versions of Quislings, Jaychand and Mirjaffors in Nepal 's academic and media sectors who are eating like a moth the very economic and political stamina of their own country. Expose them at the earliest. 14: Bring NC at par to IC. This would enhance the prestige of the country. Let the economists work to this effect. Care should be taken that all these moves proceed through diplomatic channels. Not necessarily we have to annoy India . Rather we can seek their "active" cooperation in this regard. If India is annoyed, let's prepare ourselves for yet another economic blockade of the sort of 1989 March 23 to be precise. Tips are aplenty. The million-dollar question is who will take the lead?
