Why Oli must go for the UML to survive?
KP Oli is in police custody but in reality, he is biding his time safely, placing himself in a VIP cabin at our Teaching Hospital. This old fogie has no remorse for the death of school kids during the Gen Z protest last year. He still blames everyone else for the killings. If we were to believe him, then the Kings of yesterday and even Deuba or Prachanda are not responsible for so many deaths in this country because they personally did not pull the trigger.
The UML aka the United Mundrey Leaders have lost its way, and KP Oli is responsible for the party's thrashing in the recent election. It is surprising that there is no one in the party to raise their voice to ask, threaten or force this old fogie to resign as the head of the party.
Yesterday, Subash Chandra Nembang's son had no backers when he wanted to be the leader in the House for this party. Instead, the UML chose our former Maoist and corrupt clown, Ram Bahadur Thapa aka Badal, to be the man in the House. We hope Nembang Junior will join RSP in the next election and do his bit instead of staying in the party that still feels that old fogies need to be in charge instead of handing over the leadership to young folks.
We can see that Oli still has his loyal cadres who love this jackass to death. Most of us really can't understand why young cadres under the age of 40, do not seem to mourn the killings of young children, be it the UML or the Nepali Congress. They still believe that the past 30 plus years of loot is all right and want to go out on the streets and burn tyres and destroy railings to protest Oli's arrest. Well, the Congressis are still confused how to handle Lekhak's arrest for now.
I talked to some of the old UML guards the other day. They voted for Ghanti in Oli's own backyard. It is difficult for them to leave the party that they have been loyal to for ages. But they do not seem to have the courage to rebel and ask Oli to resign as the head of the party and make way for the younger generation to take over the leadership.
It is sad to see young ladies who are shouting their lungs out in defense of Oli. It is their right to show their love for their great leader, but why do you want to support this guy who wanted to ban social media in this digital age and still doesn't want to repent for the lives lost during the Gen Z protest? What has made this kidney bean so full of himself that he considers himself above the law?
If the UML is to survive and be a relevant political party again, then Oli has to go. We don't know what our courts will tell the Balen government, but it is more than likely that this man will be let go and the courts will tell us to wait for their verdict to decide if this man is to go to jail or just get away with his misdeeds. After all, most of our judges have been appointed through political bhag-bandas and the UML, Congress and Maoists have appointed their loyal ones in our judiciary as well.
Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife are busy going on morning walks in Hong Kong and Singapore. I don't think they have any plans to return any time soon. This government is already planning to investigate Deuba's illegal wealth, even though most of the money has already been laundered overseas and Deuba Junior will live a luxurious life abroad, but it is the end for Deuba when it comes to living in Baluwatar again or leading the Nepali Congress.
Oli's loyal cadres plan to do a nationwide protest and a big rally in Kathmandu in the next few weeks. Let's see how it goes. I think the UML, Nepali Congress and former Maoists and other so-called netas from other fringe parties should realize that the tide has turned. Yes, they do command more than 50% of the PR votes, but when it comes to the FPTP seats, RSP has dominated the field, winning more than 75% of the seats. It will be very difficult for anyone to unseat RSP in five years if they continue to lead by example and not engage in any corruption, nepotism and other illegal acts.
The reality is that most of the Gen X politicians in all political parties must realize that Nepali voters have skipped a generation when it comes to choosing their lawmakers. It's sad but it's a fact. Politicians like Gagan Thapa, Yogesh Bhattarai and Ram Kumari Jhakri have no one to blame but themselves and people like Deuba and Oli for hijacking the leadership of their respective parties for decades and not grooming the next generation of leaders to take their parties forward.
Yes, the Communists and the Socialists will be there in the next election, and they will win even fewer seats, and in a decade or two, we will have more capitalist and centrist political parties rather than the old school comrades who have memorized old communist and socialist theories but will be irrelevant in this AI age.
Oli, Deuba, and Prachanda have destroyed their party and the country as well. We now have high hopes for this new government, and we know that we may still struggle, but things will be better than what we have witnessed in the past three decades.
