When I was in Tarai I have seen all  bramhin or chhetry as well the chaudhary or satar or baater were using the same Well or tube-well.
Even in pahadi region I have seen dalit were using the same kuwaa for pani.
May be it is worst in westen Nepal as well present Tarai muluk ( due to new  40-50 laakh Indian Immigrants)

But Indian people are significantly aggressive on this matter and they do not allow to use their well and tube-well. There are many horror stories on Dalit because they touched the tube-well or well.
After Ashok , Ambedkar, who first called on Dalits to become Buddhists in order to escape discrimination.
Is it working ? Not right away, it will take a while to see the changes. People who are living the same location know who they are, will not take them Buddhist but as a Dalit in their HEAD. Changing religion is a long term goal and it will help. It will take generations as well economic uplift must on Dalit.
Importantly: Our family name shows who we are, this is an issue which attached with it. Changing family name is on rise. It may be offensive to the brahmin and cheetri because of sharing a family name with dalit. They may discontinue their culture and It may take toll on their culture.
