Yes. Nepal is at crossroad at the moment with MCC and citizenship bill. My personal opinion is that, anyone married to a nepali will need to wait at least 15 years to be recognized officially as a nepali. Each country has its own culture, history, demography and geography. What is applied in the US or in Europe should not be automatically applied to Nepal. My physical structure, size, taste in style and color might not be suitable to wear a navy blue sized L blazer. So just because an American wears it does not mean it should be forced on me.
Nepal is stuck between two of the most populated countries in the world, of which one has made it clear that it wants to gobble up Nepal.
India's main strength is its gigantic population. It uses them to spread lies like the birth country of Bouddha, why Nepal never got colonized by the british, its own history mixing up India a country with India a sub-continent, etc etc. It believes that a lie repeated many times by billions of people will one day become truth. This seems to work as many foreigners believe it.
It has used its population to annex Sikkim. The recent change of Kashmir's status in Indian constitution will now give hindu Indians the right to buy lands and houses in Kashmir. The muslim majority of Kashmir in few years will find themselves in minority. Then again a referendum will take place and Kashmir will forever and officially belong to India.
So yes one needs to wait 15 years to become a Nepali. That's my opinion.
