Absences of more than six months but less than one year may disrupt an applicant’s continuous residence unless the applicant can prove otherwise- is not pandemics considered otherwise, which is beyond the control of petitioner. I think less than 6 months is no issue, more than 6 months, they might give a break with valid reason such as medical, family issues. More than year, is uncertain. They might ended up putting on a return flight if a person don’t have valid reason and no re entry permit.
