1. If available where you live, show them how to use public transportation. They will feel less constrained once they have some mobility.
2. Show them how to get to public places - parks, farmer's market, green-belt or walking areas, downtown. If you are worried about them getting lost, buy them a pre-paid phone. It won't cost too much and you don't have to be on a monthly plan.
3. If you have a trip planned for the weekend, show them some of the resources (maps, destination guides, videos).
4. Visit local library (and be a member if you are not already). In addition to books and movies, libraries also have events and activities catering to local community.
