A doctor from Massachusetts has been arrested on sexual assault charges, according to authorities.

Police on Thursday announced that 37-year-old Sujan Kayastha, of Dartmouth, “engaged in lengthy, sexually explicit communications” with a 14-year-old boy, which included “the transmission of images of child pornography.”

Investigators said they also learned Kayastha paid the teenager in exchange for sex acts.

“Kayastha then offered drugs, money, and alcohol to the juvenile, and made arrangements to meet with the victim and transport him to a hotel in Seekonk for the purposes of engaging in a sexual encounter,” police noted in a press release.

Police said Kayastha, who works as a hospitalist at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, “made admissions and incriminating statements” during the investigation. They also said they seized multiple electronic devices, as well as suspected drugs, from his home and found child pornography.

Authorities said the narcotics will be sent to a crime laboratory “for further analysis and identification.”

Kayastha was apprehended Wednesday. He is facing multiple charges, including possession of child pornography, two counts of disseminating obscene matter to a minor, two counts of electronic enticement of a child for prostitution, as well as trafficking of a person for sexual servitude.

Southcoast Health, which operates St. Luke's, issued a statement.

"We are disturbed to learn of the allegations and arrest of Dr. Sujan Kayastha. Dr. Kayastha has immediately been relieved of his duties pending review of this matter," according to a spokeswoman. "We are unable to comment further at this time."

Kayastha was scheduled for an arraignment at Attleboro District Court Thursday morning.

An investigation is ongoing, said police.
