I was told by my university that they only do F-1 OPT for graduate students who want to continue as postdocs. J-1 is only for those coming to the U.S. from another country and not for those who are already here as students.
That makes sense, but there are some websites which mention change of status from F1 to J1. For example: https://internationaloffice.berkeley.edu/immigration/changing_status
So, has anyone successfully done F-1 to J-1 transfer through USCIS without having to go to Nepal and applying at the embassy? Thanks!!
