You can put a case inquiry after 3 month mark. Until then there is nothing you can really do.

To answer your question regarding the EAD, technically you cannot start until you get your EAD on your hand. Doesn't I9 need EAD number? also I9 is held internally so it doesn't really matter until it has to be presented unless your company is an e-verify company. You can try starting without the EAD if your company is willing to risk it, the start date wouldn't matter if the date is within the EAD validity dates if required to present later. But I doubt your employer will be willing to take the risk, but you can always try. Of course your employer will wait for you, but it will be tough once the wait period gets uncomfortable.
