Not Everything that you read in school or college has direct implementation in the real world. Moreover, human brain is such that each individual has some variations in their thought process.So, satisfying everyone with different thinkings, if not impossible is very tedious.And who ever is working towards that goal cheers for them. About the Dance Competition, even if the dancer you thought should have won did win, there would be someone else raising the same question that you are raising right now. It is said that people dont see elephant in their head, but would easily see a lice in others. my point is why can't people be more optimistic?
