Hello All,

I have come to know of cases where students went back to nepal with valid I20 but expired visa and got rejected while appyling to return back here again in USA. I was planning to visit Nepal sometime soon. I am a graduate student but my visa has expired on 2009. I was told that I should go to Canada or Mexico to apply for the visa before I travel back home.

I was wondering how true it is? Is it 100% guaranteed in those two countries? Please do suggest me.
Thank you sajha friends :)

Q: Is it 100% guaranteed in those two countries?

It's not guaranteed in any Country.

Q: I have come to know of cases where students went back to nepal with valid I20 but expired visa and got rejected while appyling to return back here again in USA

Actually nepali people ONLY hear so many stories from friends. The irony is nobody actually have seen those people EXCEPT for few.

Do you know the reason behind the rejection?  were they mainting valid immigration status while they were in United States.
Did they have any criminal records, DUI or any Police record? What about their GPA ? Did they have good academic status ?

If you do not have problem with the question i mentioned above, you should have no problem getting a student visa again !

Q: I was told that I should go to Canada or Mexico to apply for the visa before I travel back home.

Don't tell me you were told this by your international student advisor. This probably was told by another friend of your, correct ?
Ask your international student advisor and he/she will say going to your HOME country is recommended for restamping F1 Visa.

Going to Canada or Mexico may give you more problem if you were rejected there. You will not be allowed to re-enter US even if you're rejected in Mexico or Canada. You'll have to go to Nepal from there if rejected.

If you're planning to go to Nepal anyway, the best would be go to Nepal, take all the documents (i hope you've good academic status and all that). You'll enjoy family time in nepal and save your travel to mexio/canada.

Sarpa pani marne, latthi pani nabhachine !

Why am i saying all this ? am i being smart assss ?
No, I have been there and done that !

Travel to Nepal and it's fairly EASY. Trust me !!! You won't be disappointed !

Chill and drink a cold beer now !

I concur with guy_tensed. Been there, done that. If you have mainted legal status during your entire stay in US and avoided any kind of troubles getting visa reissued is a pieve of cake. I was asked just two questions in my interview. 1. What is your project? 2. When do you plan on getting married?

Bro,
I graduated in May 2011 with 3.731/4.0 GPA. I was enlisted in Deans & Presidents list. I am thinking to join masters soon after my OPT expires. I want to go for  restamping (f1 visa) . What are all documents that I need to submit in embassy? How should I arrange the document in file(You know consultanicies put transcript first and so on). How about the bank balance and other documents?
Please share some more.

Thanks in advance.

Documents Needed:
1) All I-20's
2) Transcripts
3) Financial Documents

As long as you can prove consular that you intend to return to your home country after your education. It should not be a problem.

According to USCIS, the only required documents for a student visa interview are a valid I-20 and transcripts, any other documents you choose to submit are simply supporting your case.

 Yogesh Bro,

All I had presented was valid I20, letter of RA appointment, degree audit report, classes registered for next semester and passport. I did not even present financial document as I was an RA. However, I did have financial document as a backup in my bagpack. Hope this helps.

I want to reaffirm what guy_tensed and Sparrow have said already-- if you are in a good standing, you need not worry about getting a new F1 visa. Enjoy your vacation in Nepal.
I had no problems getting a new visa. I was concerned because I had taken my talents to Ocean city, MD for two summers :) The only think I assume they care about is if you are a student in a good standing or not. In terms of documents needed, your transcripts and a letter from your department/university stating that you are receiving funding through an assistantship (TA/RA) should suffice. For my interview, I presented a statement from our dept. secretary saying I am receiving funding, my latest transcript, and my undergrad transcripts and degree completion certificate. I was also asked two questions: Hi, how are you? What is your major?
Hope it helps!
