I am standing on a crossroad of life. Recently got a terminal degree.

Life has offered me three options -

1. Go for IT - programming is smth that I have always longed for.

2. Run a business and make money in the long run and uplift livelihoods of folks especially children back home..

3. Accept entry level position offered by NGO and don't earn much.

Have spent most of my life in school and now I feel its time to make some serious money.

Any constructive suggestions are highly appreciated.

G

It's hard to suggest somebody on biggest decision of their life with the limited info you have provided.

3 might be out bcoz you certainly don't look happy with its pay.

2 is a big iff. More than 3/4 small business fail, so no guarantees there. Once you start a biz you will be cought up in its day-to-day stuff.

1 sounds like a better option to me, specially if you are into programming.

Thanks Stiffler,

I have a terminal degree in Biological sciences (say geography - emaphasizing on natural resource conservation/preservation) using software programs to analyze data and produce results. .Net, C++, Java, Python, SQLServer are few of the programmings that are the crux of the software programs that I used for my studies. And without the in depth knowledge of some of the aforementioned programming languages, its tough to find a job. And programming is something that I wanna do in the future.

Hence, I am on the verge of making a decision that would impact the rest of my life - hopefully a positive impact.

I might take IT and other business side by side - my spouse would handle the latter while I would do both. IT would help me to bolster my existing skills and after few (at least 5) years of exp. I plan to come back to academia.
