I completed B.E. from Tribhuvan University. Now, I need to evaluate my credentials for EIT certification through NCEES. They say that they require original copy of transcript in sealed envelope and it is virtually impossible to request TU for another transcript from here. I don't have any recent plans to visit back home too. Anybody who has completed the process from NCEES, can you please share how you have done this. I will appreciate that.

If you can get a notarize on the photo copy, they will accept it. We send the notarized copy but we had the original too. I dont know if the bank or any other organization will notarize you without the original but still you can try it.

They do not ask for 'Original' copy. They ask for 'Official' copy. It is important to know what makes it official.

When a photocopy of your transcript is verified (Stamp and Signature on photocopy), sealed (Stamp and Signature in envelope too) and sent directly by the University, that becomes official.

I did it when I was in Nepal, three years back. I got five copies for myself, used three, one for evaluation and two for college admission. I still have two with me. TU has a separate department, in Balkhu for this verification process.

You might have a copy of your transcript with someone back home or you can send a good quality scan. Ask someone to make copies as much as you need, go to Balkhu, pay Rs.105 (at that time) per copy and they will take care of rest. TU will not do the job of posting that letter though. Ask someone to do it from somewhere near Balkhu office.

Hope it helps. All the Best!!

@ papermoon: thanks for the info but they need transcripts in sealed envelope from the corresponding institution directly.

@user248: Thank you very much. The information is very helpful. Yes, they say 'official' not the 'original'. I will find somebody to do that for me. However, did you have any problem in getting the accreditation. Their standard has listed that one must complete 16 credit hours in "General Education Component", which includes history, literature, philosophy, fine arts, social science.... so on. We never had such courses in our curriculum. Did you get any comments from NCEES regarding that. Thanks again!

when i got my eit, i had sent them a photo copy of my BE certificates, and original of my Masters from US university (university sent it  directly to them).
So if you have finished masters, do same. Otherwise you may need a letter from university. They really do not care about bachelor if u r masters student.
Email NCEES, they usually reply next day. That's what I did 2 years ago....

Hey, I did not go for NCEES. Sorry if I confused you. I joined some management course here and I needed credential evaluation for admission purpose. I have no idea about NCEES's particular requirement. Wish you good luck!!

Hey
My two cents
Dont waste in credential evaluating from NCEES. One of my friends wanted to do the evaluation of BE. They figured out that we lacked some credit hours in order to be considered a ABET degree, so it screwed him, and did his EIT from Mi. They wont need anything to give the exam and you can easily transform to you state.

Can you please share more information about your process and Licensure.

I completed my BE from Nepal P.U. and I recently did my credential evaluation from NCEES and I am just few credits short in general education, does they allow me for FE exam.

Ask your state board what's their criteria for liscensure..it's the state board who gives you the liscensure . NCEES just conducts the exams. If your state board is ok with the credential evaluation you should be fine to sit on the exam.

Tell ur family members or frens to Have your transcripts attested from corresponding department from TU ( jamal or balkhu). TU will seal it in an envelope. Then tell ur frens or family to mail that sealed package to NCEES address putting down sender's address as TU address.
That's what i did.
And NCEES may give you less credit, but you will be eligible to take EIT exam. If they give you less credits, you may need more years of experience for PE, not for EIT.

@ Imperfect harmony : Thanks for info, I've sent an email to my state board for the inquiry.

@country_boy : Google earth says it's about 400 miles from the place where I am going to as I am still in Nepal and arriving there soon, well I will have to sleep on that. btw isn't that close to detroit

@ark : thanks for your info too, I already did that from PU, I personally met Exam controller and he arranged for the whole process except I had to take the sealed envelope and had to mail it myself.

btw does they take into account of your previous work experience at Nepal or any other countries.

Hello Everyone,
I made inquiry with NCEES about FE Exam. Then, NCEES suggested me to contact state board first. If state board approves for FE exam then we can take FE Exam. Accordingly, i sent an email to Texas Board of Professinal Engineers mentioning following:
"I have completed four year engineering science in mechanical from Nepal. My degree were taught exclusively in English. I wish to apply for FE Exam. I have made correspondences with one of Foreign Educational Credential Evaluators listed on the webpage for evaluating my degree.

Do I need to provide any additional educational documents for applying the FE Exam."

In response to above query, the Texas state board replied as:
"If you have an engineering degree and live in Texas, you can register to take the FE in Texas without any other application or approval. The evaluation is not required until you apply for the EIT or PE. Registration for the October exam opens June 6.

Let me know what other questions you have.

David Howell, P.E.
Director of Licensing
Texas Board of Professional Engineers"

Thus, procedures basically, i think, depend on the State licencing board. It is worthy to make an inquiry to your State board first.
