Eleven Nepalese women have been arrested here for violating the tourist entry visas norms, police said today.

They were arrested while working in a Colombo night club in the suburb of Bambalapitiya last night. They are to be put in charge of the immigration authorities, the police said.

There have been frequent incidents of visa abuse due to people entering the island as tourists indulging in business activities.

There were several cases of Indian nationals getting arrested in the eastern province for finding employment having arrived as tourists.

Sri Lanka last year introduced a tough visa regime by doing away with the on arrival visa policy for nationals other than Singaporean and Maldivian passport holders.
