डिसीनेपाल डटकम संवाददाता - अमेरिकाको नेपाली संस्था "एशोसीएसन अफ नेप्लिज ईन अमेरिका (ANA)" मा चरम बिवाद उत्पन्न भई परदेशमा पनि नेपालीले नेपालीलाई "मुद्धा" हालेका छन् । यहि अगस्ट ६ तारिखका दिन हुन गईरहेको संस्थाको नयाँ कार्यसमितिको चुनाव रोक्का गरिपाऊँ भनी एक पक्षले अमेरिकी अदालतमा दर्ता गरेको "मुद्धा" उपर हिजो अदालतले दिएको आदेश बमोजिम ANA को चुनाब रोकिएको छ । निर्वाचन समितिका डा. सुदिप श्रेष्ठ, अन्तरिम कार्यसमितिका अध्यक्ष छेबांग शेर्पा लामा, अध्यक्ष पदका उमेदवार धिरेन गुरुङ र निवर्तमान अध्यक्ष सिमोन ढुंगाना ४ जनालाई बिपक्षी बनाई म्यारिल्याण्ड राज्यको जिल्ला अदालतमा दर्ता गरिएको "मुद्धा" उपर अदालतले छानबिन गरि आवश्यक प्रमाण/कागजातहरू र Attorney (वोकिल) लिएर अदालतमा ऊपस्थित हुनु भन्दै विपक्षीहरूलाई १० दिनको म्याद दिएको छ ।

ANA को नयाँ कार्यसमितिको चुनाब त रोकियो रोकियो । अब १० दिन पछि, अदालतमा दुवै पक्षका वोकिलहरू बीच पटक पटक "बहश" हुनेछ । अदालतमा बहश हुँदै जाँदा संस्थाको बोस्टन शम्भेलनको घाटा रकम बयासी हजार डलरको जिम्मेवार को थियो ? भन्ने बारेमा पनि बहश हुँदै गयो भने सम्मेलनका आयोजकहरू (सारा नेपाली) अमेरिकाको कानुनको घेरामा तानीने छन् । नेपाली संस्थाको अध्यक्ष पदको हानथापले गर्दा अमेरिकामा बस्ने नेपालीहरू बेकारमा जेल जानुपर्ने अवस्था नआउला भन्न सकिन्न । किनभने अमेरिकाको कानुन एकदमै कडा छ (अमेरिकामा कानुनले राष्ट्रपतीलाई पनि छोडदैन) । कानुनले दोषी साबित गरेमा, हत्कडी लगाएर थानामा थुनेर ग्रीनकार्ड भएकालाई देश निकाला (Deport) गरेर नेपाल लखेटीदिन्छ र नागरिकता लीईसकेकालाई चाहिँ अमेरिका कै जेलमा हालीदिन्छ।

अमेरिकाका नेपालीहरूले एक आपसमा यस्तो समस्या खडा गरेको बारेमा, डिसीनेपाल डटकमले अमेरिकाका लागी नेपाली राजदुत डा. शंकर प्रसाद शर्माको धारणा माग्दा राजदुत डा. शर्माले भन्नुभयो:-

Dear ANA members, voters, candidates and well wishers,

ANA Election 2011 will be officially over in August 2011. Details of the election process are in the ANA official website www.anaonline.org. The ANA General Board Meeting at ANA-DC Convention at Chantilly, VA on July 3rd has given a mandate to the Election Committee (EC) of three (Dr. Sudeep Shrestha, Mr. Hira Sharma and Ms. Sharda S Khati) to conduct and conclude the ANA Election in a fair, transparent and democratic manner. Thousands of voters and many more candidates are participating in one of the most democratic elections in the history of Nepali organizations.

EC is concerned about the fraud activities of some of the candidates of ANA Election, who have been declaring themselves as the elected officers of ANA without any election. This is the most immoral and shameful activities of so called well educated candidates of ANA Election 2011. Whoever does such a fraud and unethical action against the fully authorized election of a nonprofit organization is highly unacceptable. Those responsible are liable to lawsuit. Now, this is the time to end this boring drama. Election Committee through this press release would like to ask the ANA Interim Board and the Independent Task Force of ANA to take a necessary legal action for those whose fraud and unethical action is ruining the credibility and goodwill of ANA, one of the oldest and most prestigious nonprofit Nepali organizations in the US and Canada.

Some facts:

1.       Those so called self declared ANA Officers rejected voting right of thousands of eligible voters.

2.       Those so called self declared ANA Officers boycotted the ANA-DC Convention at Chantilly, VA on July 4th Independence Day weekends.

3.       Those so called self declared ANA Officers blamed that the ANA-DC Convention had no public support, the fact that some 3000 people attended the Convention.

4.        Those so called self declared ANA President (also the Senior VP of NRNA) blamed the Convention unauthentic; in fact all of his NRNA Executive Board authorized the ANA-DC Convention and participated with successful NRN forums.

5.       Those so called self declared ANA Officers praise the unethical, undemocratic and unauthentic action of declaring election result on their behalf by Mr. Raja Upadhay; in fact Mr. Upathaya has been dismissed from Election Committee for his highly unacceptable, unethical and shameful action.

6.       Those so called self declared ANA Officers are threatening the EC for a lawsuit; in fact EC is warning them to follow the election guidelines or face necessary actions.

Master mind behind the team who filed lawsuit is Dr. Shambhu Dhungana from Los Angeles. He is current president of Friends of Nepal (FON) in Los Angeles, CA.

Both Shambhu Dhungana and Pralhad KC  are members of NRN - America Unity Collaboration Team. Radha Basnyat is also member of NRN.

Is NRN trying to creep inside ANA and take over ANA? ANA has already established a brand name sort of and is the most popular Nepali organization in the USA.

Nas, You hit it right on. This is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. I think everyone shares the blame but this really comes down to a group  of mostly old-timers and life members who want to keep the ANA in their conrol and not open it to the kind of people who are running for the now stopped elections. They are more comfortable with someone like Prahlad KC rather than Dhiren Gurung or HB Bhandari or even Simon for that matter.

As for financial irregularities, it is not like somebody stole 80,000 dollars from the cash-box in Boston and  stashed it under their mattress. That is a myth perpetuated for political reasons that some gullible people have bought into. What happened, from what I understand, is the hotel  sought to renegotiate the contract at the last minute threatening to cancel the convention. The ANA team responsible for the venue, lead by Prahlad KC, basically panicked and signed off on a whole bunch of new charges without fully figuring out what they were getting into. When the convention was over and the numbers were crunched, they ended up with way more expenses than they ever imagined because the hotel now ended up costing several times more than they had planned.  Call it negligence, laziness or plain stupidity. That  opened the floodgates for ANA politics and the old timers used that loss as a stick to beat Simon with. Sadly, Simon, instead of owning up  as the head of the organization,  threw his Vice President and Convention Chair Medini Adhikari under the bus holding him responsible for the poor oversight. Medini Adhikari in turn ended up passing the blame to the co-convenors and the Boston team. The Boston team then passsed the blame back to the national ANA. So there is plenty of blame to go around.The supreme irony of all this is Prahlad KC actually tried to exhonerate himself from the situation by joining hands with the past presidents and is now in the midst of a lawsuit that might ending up showing way more culpability on his part. 

West Coast (Shambhu Dhungana) vs East Coast (Simon Dhungana). Like Tupac vs Notorious Big battle, both ended dead at the end.

How about a "Dhunga" throwing contest during next year ANA?  "Shambhu vs. Simon"

All ANA partipants can watch like the Roman mob and cheer for their favorite gladiator. I would pay $100 to watch.

Ana Whistleblower, nice one. Maybe  the court should call this case Dhungana vs Dhungana :) However, I think this is more a case of old guard versus new blood rather than east versus west or anything else.

It seems to me that this guy Mr. Prahlad KC is clearly a fraud and a scumbag. There is an interesting article by one Bijaya Thapa on him. I don't know how true it is but as they say in Nepali - हावा न हम्के पात हल्दैन ! I think it pretty much reflects his unethical modus operandi and how he is trying to grab the presidency of ANA undemocratically.

We are seeing the same situation in NRNA. This is an open secret that the appearance of Mr. Prahlad KC in the position of Senior VP was very controversial. Without any doubt Mr. KC hijacked this position in a very shameful manner. Still dedicated members and well wishers of NRNA accept him for this position just to protect the growing public support to this organization. This is unfortunate for NRNA team that Mr. KC’s same unethical and shameful strategy to hijack the President position of Association of Nepalis in Americas (ANA) without letting other practice democratic election is jeopardizing the name and fame of NRNA"

Raja Upadhyay Suspended as Chair of Election Committee

Mr. Raja Upadhyay, who has long served ANA primarily in the role of Election Committee Chairman has been suspended by ITFANA for his role in recent election. While he was out of country, according to him someone sent out email from his home email address announcing winners with his knowledge. He has not answered question on who sent the email, when he had ready internet access himself in out of country or why he decided to do so unilaterally when a day earlier the Election Committee had unanimously decided to halt election activities. He put the integrity of the Election Committee in question and has raised suspicion of other candidates. Therefore as per the notification of ITFANA, Raja Upadhyay has been suspended from his role as Chair of Election Committee of ANA and the matter may be pursued with any recourse chosen by ITFANA to uncover any anomalies and irregularities. Raja Upadhyay can request Executive Board of ANA to reinstate his position as Chair with documented explanation on the questions raised.

The Special Emergency Meeting of Executive Board of ANA unanimously approved and upheld jurisdiction of ITFANA on:
a.    Next ANA Election until its conclusion. 
b.    Financial matters of Boston Convention until its completion
c.    ANA/ NECC affair until the title is transferred.
d.    29th ANA Convention in DC until its conclusion
e.    Lawful action to respond to anyone or any situation against ANA

Ha ha ... well said, Hari B Bhandari. Maybe you and Dhiren Gurung need to join forces and file a counter lawsuit ;)


Prahlad KC's behaviour is truly tragic. This is a man who came to the US as a student, struggled a lot and through his hard work and a bit of luck did well for himself and his family. Instead of rising above the fray and displaying a spirit of generosity that you would expect in someone with his success, he has chosen to take the low road of pursuing power at any cost.

I can only hope the court rules againt him and  he will realize that if he wants to be the leader of Nepalese in America, he has to work with the people he seeks to lead, engage them, win their hearts and minds, persuade them, inspire them instead of trying to get to the top through back-room manouverings.

 यो लास्ट इयर को घोटाला मा छान्बिन हुन पाउ भनेर म अदालत जान्छु । इ डाँका हरुलाई छोड्नु हुन्न । 

 It is time for all of us to BOYCOTT this criminal organization for once and all. Why can't all those mushrooming nepali youth organizations unite and come together to form something similar to ANA. I am sure it will serve better and cater to the needs of the students and nepalis alike.

And for the perpetrators of embezzlement, I sincerely hope that they go to Jail.
