The government is preparing to introduce health insurance scheme for all citizens, Annapurna post daily reported.

It has already begun the groundwork with a plan to implement the programme in various phases from the coming fiscal year.

The government has formed a 17-member high-level committee led by health minister Uma Kant Chaudhary to work out the policy and strategy of the health insurance programme.

The preparation and procedure of health insurance for citizens has reached final stage, said Dr Laxmi Raj Pathak, spokesperson at the health ministry.

In addition to the health minister, the high level committee includes State Minister for Health, vice chairman of National Planning Commission, secretaries at the health, finance, local development, general administration and labour ministries, chairperson of Insurance Board, chairpersons of private health organisation and Director General of Department of Health Services.

The committee has been delegated to chart out a suitable strategy for health insurance programme in Nepal by studying the cases of other countries where health insurance has been implemented.

The government has already implemented the health insurance programme in six districts of the eastern region as a trial. The results have been positive. However, the programme is also facing a challenge in that many people are not able to afford the premium of the insurance.

Experts say, to make the programme a success, the government should pay the insurance premium of those who cannot afford.

Booming Private Clinic and hospital in Nepal. Doctor work in government hospital and check sick people and request to go to their own private clinic and hospital for treatments. So they can earn money 100 times as much as they can. It is riff-off poor and country.
