Hello :

I was wondering if someone could tell me what a "decent" stipend sum is. Also, what's the highest stipend amount you've heard of?

mr.blah,

does biological science mean mol.science ONLY? i thought it encompass env. sci, biology and all other sciences. maybe i am wrong. see, i don't go to top college. budhha said bioscience and i wrote i am in bioscience too than u started dragging into mol.sci. don't linger in the past. what few nepali did is done and gone. never heard any of the names u mentioned. maybe, its not my particular field or maybe their contribution is not like Madam Curie. there was/is none in mine. i will google their names but just tell me quickly how he exposed nepal because i have used different strategy to do so. wanna know more, email me. but do a favor, don't say nepalis have done well just because few did. we are ~ 29 million and extra 7 million live abroad. more than 31% live below poverty but still we are big in no. i will get back to this quantity thing later. show me one thing that NRN have done that is praiseworthy. Nada. have u heard the president speak. he struggles in eng. if our edu. sys. was strong, don't u think there would be at least some lakhs who would expose us like the indians did. out of their 1.3 billion mass, 30% live under poverty but still 70% of the young generation speak fluent english and their vocab is way stronger than ours.ours still struggle in toefl. worse, we pay money to practise toefl. its not about the no. or quantity but quality that counts. u know in their every school be it primary to college, be it public or private, they are taught in english medium and that too rivals UKs. on the other hand, i have met so many youngsters who reflects current edu.system. how many dv winners have u met?? my area has colonies of them. when i interact with them i get this feeling, we have to wait another generation before we say we are smth. at this point, we can blame the fag govt. but for how long??

u are nowhere rude but i can be..

Nepal's deteriorating condition inspire me not a top college going snobby nepali. right now, we need every able nepali to contribute smth. do whatever u do but work towards dev. of ur poor nation. the day u do that, i will salute you.ok. say, u used ur knowledge to cure entire village for free or smth.

Hey buddy!

No - Biological Science does not mean Molecular Life Science only. I don't think I have stated anywhere that it means that. What did I drag into Molecular Life Science? Where did you find my views wrong?

Snowfed River, please stop using your rhetorics and changing the topics because you can't admit that the average stipend in Biological Science is higher than you expected and there are Nepalis that are doing quite well in the field of Biological Sciences.

Biological Science encompasses the field of Molecular Science so you can not now counter-argue and say that achievements in Molecular Sciences are not worthy!

Uttam Lal Rajbhandary exposed Nepal to people in his field by doing amazing work. I don't know if you realize this but a lot of people throughout the world have problems even locating Nepal on the map. Atleast the guy made Nepal famous by his contributions in the field. And do you know the number of prominent scientists he has trained?

I don't feel like I need to email you so that you can tell me about your contributions to Nepal. I don't doubt your contribution Why don't you just mention it in the forum? . Look Snowfed , this discussion has never been about you! I don't have time to delve into how you have contributed to Nepal - I have already said that I appreciate it but what is the point you are making? I don't think it pertains to our discussion.

Nepalis have indeed done well. You can't deny that. For a country with 20 million people, we have Professors at Harvard and MIT. You might be a pessimist but I feel that  no matter how small, that is something to be proud of. And there are huge numbers of Nepalis in a Good School. I have met 5 kids who did their undergrad at Harvard in the last 5 years. Nepal is well represented in the best liberal arts colleges in the US.

I don't care about the NRN as an organization and I have never brought them in our previous discussions so just spare me your views on them.

Your arguments pertaining to India and President's English are just ridiculous.

1) Does great command of English reflect great education? - Look at China or Japan.

2) Do you think Politicians in Nepal reflect a good bunch of educated population? - I think you need to find a different sample size because politicians are not a representation of a good educated bunch.

3) Was Nepal ever occupied by the UK? - India speaks great English because it had to in the past. When British took over India, they left behind a lot including their language. You see that most of the colonial nations are great at speaking the language of the country that occupied them. Look at Lebanon and the French speaking population there for example.

4) Indians also pay a lot in terms of their expenditure for TOEFL. So does Japan and China and Korea - Does that mean that they are uneducated countries?

5) Why would I care about DV winners? Please stop beating around the bush here.

6) Where have I blamed the government in my argument ?

I love how you baselessly stereotype things. Why are Nepalis that go to top colleges snobby?

I don't know why you are mentioning that we need every able nepali to contribute something. I don't think I disagree with you. You sound like a Model in a Miss World Competition whose answer to everything is "I want to end world poverty and hunger" but in your case it is more like "cure entire village for free or contribute to Nepal". You see such vague statements never did anyone any good. I completely agree that we should work towards the development of our poor nation but that has nothing to do with the stipend of students in Biological Sciences.

And I don't want your salute because your salute is as worthless to me.

I do hope that one day my finding will help a brilliant scientist to find a cure for a disease so that he can get rid of a disease for the whole world not just Nepal! But that is not the point of our discussion here.

Look at the last table, you will see that the average for Biological Sciences is 18270 (RA) and 16300 (SA)

man, u are smth. u mentioned some neps doing well in mol.sci and now u deny that! u began talking about them. certainly those few may have done pretty well in their u are doing nothing but praising few individuals work and think 29 million of us do the same. no sireee, it isn't that time yet!! we r not that educated or developed yet!! this is what i have been telling u from the very beginning. i answered ur comments and now u are saying they are baseless. while most of us blame the weak govt. for failing systems. u don't. let me come back to you. i am in the middle of smth.

newlynew, you idiot, I already learned what I wished to know.

Say Mr. Newlynew asked a question " Hey guys, can someone tell me what a decent good goal-scoring record is", I'd be able to tell them that anything around 20 league goals is considered to be decent. Further, depending on years and leagues, the numbers could differ. Last season, La Liga's highest scorer scored about 30 goals while Premier League's top scorer only managed around 20 goals.

Get it you moron? damn smartass. Ke ho? e-hero hune? reveal your true identity and I shall message you on facebook and we could probably have a decent convo. Else, bog off.

ok. mr. blah, this is getting funnier-

Snowfed River, please stop using your rhetorics and changing the topics because you can't admit that the average stipend in Biological Science is higher than you expected and there are Nepalis that are doing quite well in the field of Biological Sciences.

- well, i know there are colleges that pay more and the tuition is free too. alas, that's not the case in every state and unluckily, i happened to be in one of them. u came along and rediculed at how much i made?

Biological Science encompasses the field of Molecular Science so you can not now counter-argue and say that achievements in Molecular Sciences are not worthy!

- never said they were/are unworthy. now, u are making me look bad in front of this community.

- stiil don't know what he did but will google shortly. u know, with GIS/RS, its easier to find.

- same old thing.

1) Does great command of English reflect great education? - Look at China or Japan.

- they work hard and have strong vocabs.

Was Nepal ever occupied by the UK? - India speaks great English because it had to in the past. When British took over India, they left behind a lot including their language. You see that most of the colonial nations are great at speaking the language of the country that occupied them. Look at Lebanon and the French speaking population there for example.

 - got a point here.

don't know why you are mentioning that we need every able nepali to contribute something. I don't think I disagree with you. You sound like a Model in a Miss World Competition whose answer to everything is "I want to end world poverty and hunger" but in your case it is more like "cure entire village for free or contribute to Nepal". You see such vague statements never did anyone any good. I completely agree that we should work towards the development of our poor nation but that has nothing to do with the stipend of students in Biological Science.

- aren't u the one who said stipend reflects education. what is good of a education that is useful for others. instead of saving the world for now, i think it would be better to start with the village.

Why would I care about DV winners? Please stop beating around the bush here. - you should. they are nepali too. try to look at the bigger picture.

6) Where have I blamed the government in my argument ? - you should because today there would be lakhs like u instead of YOU and few others.

And I don't want your salute because your salute is as worthless to me. - you won't get it.

do hope that one day my finding will help a brilliant scientist to find a cure for a disease so that he can get rid of a disease for the whole world not just Nepal! But that is not the point of our discussion here - Good luck. enjoy the stipend the shell u are in.

1) I ridiculed at how much you made because you were going on and on about how one Nepali was exaggerating and I was simply exaggerating by telling you that you don't make as much as other people in the field.

2) Why did you make a point about Biological Science and Molecular Science? What was your point?

3) You should google Uttam Lal Rajbhandary.

4) What do you mean by "same old thing"?

5) http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2009/04/117_42399.html (China's TOEFL score is 99th and Japan is 136th).

6) I am glad you got a point about your statements about India's great English.

7) I did say that good schools offer good stipends but what does that have to do with your "curing entire villages for free or contributing to Nepal"..?

8) I should care about DV winners but what is your point with DV winners?

9) I should blame the government? - I didn't even blame the government and you were telling me that we should do something instead of blaming the government and now you are telling me that now we should blame the government?

u wanna go on. fine with me.

1) I ridiculed at how much you made because you were going on and on about how one Nepali was exaggerating and I was simply exaggerating by telling you that you don't make as much as other people in the field. - i think nobody has the right to redicule at anybody. i wrote twice just to answer buddha's comments that doesn't count as going on and on. don't u even know the common traits? it is either u have a chosen circle of good neps or u are one of them. now, u admit u did exaggerate so u r one of them.

2) Why did you make a point about Biological Science and Molecular Science? What was your point? - u started with few nepalese doing well in Mo.sci.

3) You should google Uttam Lal Rajbhandary - i will and i think from ur comments we did similar thing but in a different way i.e. helping people to find nepal on the large or small scale maps. now, don't get me wrong - i am not trying to campare with him. i am just a toddler in the game.

4) What do you mean by "same old thing"? making ur statements on few achievers on and on and on and thought they are entire nepal.

5) http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2009/04/117_42399.html (China's TOEFL score is 99th and Japan is 136th). - they work hard. no doubt. and retain the vocabs unlike others.

6) I am glad you got a point about your statements about India's great English.

7) I did say that good schools offer good stipends but what does that have to do with your "curing entire villages for free or contributing to Nepal"..? - becasue due to more money, u don't have to worry about other things just study and with good study comes good education. and good education can be applied to do a lot of things such as curing a village. or conduct research in nepal just like me. see using resources and building our won thing. may be u know nepal lacks strong manpower in so many fields. she is in desperate need of people like u who is going to top college. so do that.

8) I should care about DV winners but what is your point with DV winners? - aren't they nepali like u? they exist. say if all the dv winners were like u than you would be bragging more that there are many neps who are doing cause they do not have to worry about patta. at that point, i would agree yes, there are many neps doing good in mol.sci.

9) I should blame the government? - I didn't even blame the government and you were telling me that we should do something instead of blaming the government and now you are telling me that now we should blame the government? - u don't blame anybody. good for u cause most of us blame them. and lucky u, u are one satisfied nepali i have met. see unlike u, some people have to work. if u wanna discuss more email me cause one time i was cursing a lot and the admin banned me from a computer in office and that's where i am heading right now. just drop that email and i will catch you later. or we can even talk on the phone. adios.

1) You did admit already that you should have read the thread carefully when you responded to buddha already so you have already admitted to replying without reading carefully..

2) Yeah. So ? What are you trying to say?

3) Care to explain how you helped people find Nepal ?

4) Did I ever say that entire Nepal is doing great? I am saying that we should be proud of people who have achieved a lot and we should move forward. You can't have dramatic developments. Such processes take time. China and India had a huge brain drain problem in the 70s-90s and to some extent it still does. Some of those people returned and transformed the economy. Furthermore, the remittance generated by these people led to investments in the country and boosted the economic development.

5) And your source is? - How many Chinese and Japanese do you know anyway? I agree that they work hard but if they retained vocabs they should also have the capability to retain English and do well on the TOEFL. You are the one who used TOEFL score as a parameter indicative of educational system of a country so now you are going to base in on things that can't be measured. Do you mean that Nepalis don't work hard? What do you mean by hard work anyway? Such subjective ideas are useless in discussions.

7) I will try to work for Nepal in a way I deem feasible.

6) I am glad you got a point about your statements about India's great English.

8) Yeah DV winners are Nepalis but what does it have to do with what we have been talking about? Does DV Nepalis affect the stipend of international students?

Can you explain what you said in number 8 a bit more carefully. I am starting to have problems understanding your English.

9) Yes I am one satisfied Nepali because I feel that blaming other people is not going to do anyone any good. Kul Chandra Gautam didn't blame his government school.

"Unlike you some people have to work?" - what do you mean by that? Now you think that I don't have to work?

I see that you have admitted to most of my arguments so I don't feel the need to discuss via email. I would, however, appreciate your responses on the forum though.

I see that you have admitted the following:
1) You didn't read the forum carefully when you responded to Funky Buddha
2) There are quite some Nepalis doing well in Good Schools in the US as educators and students.
3) TOEFL score does not indicate educational system of a nation.
4) India has great English because it was ruled by England.
5) Nepalis in top colleges are not snobby and do care to work for their country albeit in a different way.
6) My comments don't sound like blahblahblah because I have provided proofs of my arguments.
7) I am nowhere rude but you can be.

Quagmire,
why couldn't you fu(king google? Is it that hard to type 'grad school stipend?'

snowfed,
for the love of god and your meager 9K stipend, please shut up. A grad student like you seems to have a lot of free time to write paragraphs over petty things.

blahblah,
looks like you also have too much free time.

I might be repeating what someone else has already said, but you could still get admitted under probation with that GPA. BUT, you will not be eligible for any assistantships or fellowships if you are admitted under probation. But again different schools have different policies but normally GPA under 3.0 is a no-no for unconditional admission. :)

mr. blah,

now, u are changing ur statement - u said there are many neps (u thought 20 neps would suffice 20 millions). doing well in mol.sci. u did  not say, we should be proud of them..ha-ha- who is the nautanki here? u can be proud of them u cannot tell every neps to be! it is our right to chose.

man, u are that frog in a pond, a pond where there are handful successful neps and all u see is them. get out of that BOX and expand ur vision. do u know what GIS, remote sensing, google earth is? u can use these tools and easily find that ~ 200countries of the world on a map. we need manpowers to work for nepal not eulogizers.

ur relentless eulogy suprise even a child. few did this, few did that. ur long comments indicate u have plenty of time to throw around cause i used to believe cell study require 24/7 but looks like its not true. i am gonna have to ask my bio, friend to keep that faith.

anyway, to make it short, u can always drop that email to know more. enjoy that pond life with that money. amen!!!

Snowfed River,

Please refer to our discussions on a point-wise basis above and let me know where I am wrong. Furthermore, read your previous posts and see that you have admitted to the 7 points that I have stated already.

Can you just get back to the points instead of changing the topics of arguments every single time because that is not how you debate.

For your kind information I do know what GIS is. I don't see what your point is? I don't even think like your analogy of comparing me to a frog in a pond. I was born in a village where they did not have electricity so I don't think your comparison is fair.

Do you know what eulogy is? It is a speech given to praise a person who died or a high praise to someone. How I am an "eulogizer" as you so eloquently put it?

My study does require a lot of study but I am quite good at managing my time so I do have plenty of time.

I don't have a lot of money and I don't want to drop that email because I want to discuss things with you on a public forum.

In a nutshell,

All I want you to do is admit to the 7 points that you have said already! That is all because after that there is no need to argue because you are quite apt at beating around the bush just because you can not accept being wrong!

u are right. mr.blah is bringing out his evil here. he says many nepalese are doing well in mol.sci that i am unware of.

blah,

why don't u get married and have kids and lets see how will u manage ur time for anything let alone writing 10 paragraphs in sajha. forget abot that 7 points. just want to show u are superior than others cause u go to top college and you are 20 in no. do u know GIS capacity then??

In the words of Barnie Frank "trying to have a conversation with you is like arguing with a dining table". That is what I feel like now.

You just posted that I am bringing out evil? I am bringing out evil by telling people that there are good hardworking Nepalis in the field of Molecular Life Science and Biology in general?

And why are you bringing up issues of a kid and getting married?

Look - just read my post with 7 points that I have made and the 7 points that you have already admitted to. That just sums up everything.
