Studying for CPA isn't as tough ONLY if you prepare well and devote ENOUGH TIME. And go with Becker material for preparation. It is expensive compared to other brands out there but its worth every penny.

Then you apply with NASBA at for the exam. They will evaluate your trans based on the requirements of your state, then they will approve you to sit for the exams. The second step is to register for each exam for whatever exam window you prefer and go for it. The average preparation time for each exam should be 6 to 8 weeks from my personal experience.

I suggest you to start preparing and taking some of the exams while you are in school. Once you start working, you will find it hard to devote time for preparation.

Another thing to keep in mind that, Becker lecture software is only valid for 1 year from the date you purchase the material. So even if you have 18 months from the time you pass the first exam to pass the rest of the 3 exams, you have to finish within a year once you start if you use Becker.

To take the examination to become licensed as a certified public
accountant, you must meet your state's requirements for education,
experience, and knowledge. Most states now require 150 semester hours
of university education.

To become a certified public accountant, you must pass all four parts
of the Uniform CPA Examination. Each state administers the examination
and reports scores to its candidates. However, the examination is made
up and graded by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants

The exam is offered up to six days a week during January, February,
April, May, July, August, October and November each year. Each two
month testing period is called a window. Candidates make appointments
for specific dates and times during a window at a regional testing

After the state board determines a candidate is eligible to sit for
specific sections of the CPA Examination, the candidate will receive a
Notice to Schedule (NTS).

The four parts of the examination are:

  • Auditing & Attestation

  • Financial Accounting & Reporting (business enterprises, not-for-profit organizations, and governmental entities)
  • Regulation (professional responsibilities, business law, and taxation)

  • Business Environment & Concepts

The examination takes two days.

Each of the four parts of the examination is graded on a scale of 0 to 100. The minimum passing score is 75.

BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT is 100% multiple choice.

AUDITING includes multiple choice questions and simulations.

REGULATION includes multiple choice questions and simulations.

FAR includes multiple choice questions and simulations.

Based on what i know, CPA is not a college degree or anything, so i dont believe you will be stay on F1 status ONLY to study for CPA. If you are already in F1 status for something else, then you can definately study for CPA and sit for the exam.

Qualifying for CPA exam depends on your state. Check with you State Board of Accountancy. Some states require you to have 150 college credit hours and some require you to have so many accounting classes.

Some states require 30 credit hours of Accounting courses, which could be included with your 150 credit hours. Some states require residential status so you need to watch out for that as well. If you have MBA and not have enough accounting classes then you should join community college and get accounting diploma which should satisfy your requirement. Good luck.

ANY body taking CPA Exam in East coast??  I   want to appear on FAR and REC and will take rest two if  passed these.  Can meet once in a week and discuss if you want.

I got some review materials on Auditing and BEC you can borrow (will take some deposit, just to make sure I will get all material back) if you need. I can download exam practice; I have flash cards from KAPLAN.
