Hey guys;
Can anybody please explain the detail process for obtaining police clearance (for canada immigration) if you are currently in the US? For example: where to get the fingerprints from? where to submit those prints, and where do we get the final clearance report from, that needs to go with application for PR.
Thanks in advance
Gyan

First go to your local police station (city, town, etc). Tell them you need to get your finger prints taken for immigration. They will charge you small fee. Once you get your finger prints, send it to FBI office. Here is the weblink: http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm. It takes about 4-5 weeks for FBI to return it to you. On the card you send, FBI will have stamp saying "no record found" if you have no criminal back ground. I hope this helps. Cheers

Thanks whoareyou,
That helps. One more question though. The canadian immigration guide says that we also must provide a copy of their letter requesting that we obtain a police record check (PC-1 letter), when we send fingerprint to FBI. But before we even apply for the immigration, where do we get that PC-1 letter, sent from camadian immigration regional office? Any idea?
thanks in advance
Gyan

Have you downloaded the whole package? That letter should be with the package, minus your name, etc. You have to fill out the names sign/date it. Attach it to your immigration application with your FBI-returned fingerprint card.  You can find that letter here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/E33048.PDF (after page B2).

I don't think you need to send it to FBI since they have their own request form/letter you need to fill it out. It won't hurt to send it to FBI just in case. I guess it also authorizes Canadian Immigration of contact directly to FBI to do back ground check if they needed to.

Thanks whoareyou for your prompt response. you seem pretty efficient, my fren.
Yes, i have downloaded the package, and i found the page you are talking about. However, in page b1, it says (under USA) you must provide: a copy of item 1(= pc-1 letter), item 2 (= a full set of fingerprints), item 3( = money order of $ 18), and (in item 4 it says )specify the fingerprints are for canadian immigraiton purpose. My confusion is on to whom those items (1-4), we must provide. If  this is for immigration office, then why do we submit them item 3? if this is for FBI, then why we submit them the item 1?

btw, you appear to be a very knowledge in this process. can i contact you if you have email ID to know more in detail ?

You can email me on sajha. I will get it. I believe you are suppose to send all the items to FBI. As from my understanding, pc-1 letter is not just a request for finger print from FBI, it also give Canadian immigration office an authority to do background check if needed. Please also check the money order amount in FBI website.
